Hurry, pass the big telephoto lens
Advice on photo and film equipment
By far the best camera is the one you’ve got right in your hand. If possible try to choose lightweight, uncomplicated equipment. Remember you’ll be out in the African bush, and time will often be of the essence.
Since you probably won’t be taking your pictures for pecuniary gain, it is not really necessary, or advisable, to carry a sophisticated high-resolution camera. After all, you’ll only be cursing when that magical moment is ruined as the animal disappears back into the bush whilst you are still trying to dig out and change that heavy telephoto lens!
Today there are a range of compact digital cameras that have integrated zoom with adjustable focussing from wide angle to telephoto. (You will also find that most video cameras offer these features too). Such a camera should provide you with everything you need when recording your safari adventure, memories no doubt of the many beautiful and exhilarating places, people and animals that you are destined to encounter on your African journey.
It is so important that you bring along enough batteries, chargers and memory chips. Wouldn’t be unfortunate if the absence of such trivial things ruined your photographic prowess! |
