Money makes the world go round
Local currencies, credit cards and cash
The local currency is the Zambia Kwacha (ZMK). Kwacha’s literal translation is ‘sunrise’ and the currency comes in large denominations. Presently, 1 Euro (EUR) will buy you more than 5,600 Kwacha (ZMK). Do remember that these figures are of course subject to fluctuation. Whilst travelling, we recommend that you carry either Euro or US Dollar bills, preferably sticking to smaller bills.
It is not always possible to pay with a credit card.
