Are you fit for Zambia?
It’s not for softies!

What you can expect on a Zambian safari

You’ll find that in Zambia, the ‘real’ Africa still exists….wide stretches of pristine, untouched land, sparingly populated and still untainted by mass tourism. Perhaps the very best that Africa has to offer, particularly if you choose to participate in a walking safari. The charm lies not in a comfortable experience of luxury, but rather in discovering remarkable, unspoilt swathes of Africa and awakening all your senses. Leaving behind your comfort zones will surely reward you with an experience that will burn into your memory forever.

So our Zambian safaris will show you what this wonderful African continent has always been like: wild, breathtakingly beautiful and full of surprises. Be prepared to drive on roads that lead through uncharted territory. Perhaps doubling back and finding another route, if necessary, will all be part of your great adventure; for, apart from the major tar roads, most routes in Zambia hold a surprise or two and do require pretty special driving skills.

Altogether, large national parks cover 20% of the country. There are four areas of note, full of natural interest, beauty and adventure. The first and perhaps most significant park is the South Luangwa National Park (9,050 km²), which is located in the South Luangwa Valley. Its ecosystem consists of a large number of lagoons fed by the Luangwa River. These lagoons present an ideal habitat for numerous species of wild animals, such as the Thornicroft’s Giraffe, endemic to Zambia, indeed unique in the world.

The Kafue National Park is one of the world’s largest conservation areas, a massive 22,400 km² of wild and untouched territory. The park offers shelter for a large variety of wildlife, including the endemic Red Jackal. The majestic Kafue River creates wide areas of floodplain surrounded by the soft rolling hills of the central escarpment.

In the Lower Zambezi Valley, covering an area from the mouth of the Kafue River into the mighty Zambezi, and up to the tributaries of the Luangwa River, lays the Lower Zambezi National Park. This remote, yet exotic national park offers a great variety of fauna in a simply spectacular environment dominated by one of the world’s great rivers. Livingstone, in colonial times the capital of the country, is today a tranquil town as yet unsullied by the burgeoning tourist activities all around Victoria Falls; the landscape around this veritable wonder of the world has changed little since Livingstone’s day. Perhaps the only difference is that it is now possible to access such an amazing area more easily.
